OUR FOUNDING STORY:
Maria is inspired by a lifetime of work by the late Stuart Beck, Ambassador from the Island Nation of Palau to the UN, and Co-Founder of The Ocean Sanctuary Alliance (OSA) (oceansanctuaryalliance.org). OSA is a coalition of countries, scientists and policy-makers within the UN, who have committed resources and expertise to protect the world’s oceans. Member States include Republic of Palau, European Union, Australia, Republic of Italy, Republic of Kenya, Israel, Sweden, Republic of Maldives, Iceland, The Bahamas, Republic of Poland, Marshall Islands, and a growing list of others.
Maria created The Blue S.O.S. to give the next-generation a seat at the power table in this work. Backed pro-bono by Edelman Worldwide's Public Policy group, The Blue S.O.S. translates critical science and policy developments on brand platforms within fashion, beauty, retail, technology, and travel- and organizes thousands of young consumers behind specific products, and away from others. We are architects of the new blue economy, and are pretty proud and excited about it!
